Before You Begin

From first call to answers you can use.

Most people arrive at an evaluation never having had one, and the process is not obvious from the outside. Here is what it involves, so that nothing about it is a surprise.

1. Consultation

A conversation before anything is scheduled, to hear what prompted the question and to work out together whether an evaluation is the right step. There is no charge for it and no obligation to book.

2. Clinical interview

A longer conversation covering developmental, medical, educational and family history. Bringing prior records, school reports and any earlier evaluations makes this part considerably more useful.

3. Testing

Standardised tasks covering the areas relevant to your question: memory, attention, language, reasoning, academic skills, and mood. It is not an exam and there is nothing to revise for. Breaks are expected.

4. Report and feedback

Scoring and interpretation take time, and the written report is the durable product of the whole process. The feedback session is where it is explained in plain language and where you ask whatever you need to.

5. Real-world application and wellness

A diagnosis on its own changes nothing. Recommendations are written for the places you actually spend your time, not in general terms: this classroom, this course, this job. The report is prepared so it can serve as the documentation an accommodation has to be applied for with. Where the findings point to sleep, stress or mood as part of the picture, that is said too, because those are often what moves first.
